Rev.
A. R. and Karen Bernard founded Brooklyn Preparatory School (BPS) in
1993. As parents, they understand the importance of educating the whole
child: body, mind, and spirit. BPS, a foundation in early childhood
education, is a school where children learn, grow, and develop their
true selves as revealed in Christ -- academically, cognitively,
emotionally and spiritually. It is a learning center rich in rigor and
discipline, academic and hands-on, experienced-based learning; an
environment filled with love and nurturing, chock full of resources to
stimulate our children's natural curiosities and imaginations.
Classrooms are organized to allow many opportunities for interaction. Lessons in discipleship are balanced with the
joy of wonder, playfulness and comraderie. Children learn how to think,
to express themselves in spoken and written communication. They learn
how to interact with each other, laying a foundation for a community of
responsible, caring members with high self-esteem and a sense of
belonging and contribution. Intra-curricular activities include
gymnastics, bowling, swimming, as well as trips to New York Public
Library, Green Meadows Farm, Liberty Science Center and much more.
Students
are enrolled at the age of three in what is called our Junior
Pre-Kindergarten class, and spend four academic years in our school.
Presently, children graduate after completing Grade 1. The progression
of levels is Junior Pre-Kindergarten, Junior Kindergarten, Kindergarten
and 1st Grade.
